Miranda Yanez’s graduate work conveys paintings as diagrams in constructing a transitory dialogue between moments of lethargy and clarity through a series of figures responding to the qualities of ambiguity and passivity. Through engaging with the transience of rurality and fields, Yanez emphasizes the implications of situated place in configuring personal resolve.

In her paintings, Miranda uses oil as a medium to create depth, building layers and textures that form a rich atmosphere. Her muted palette, reduced to a few condensed colours, reflects the introspective and retrospective qualities of the spaces she engages with. Her process involves the addition and reduction of paint, sometimes wiping surfaces with rags and solvents or applying thicker layers in certain areas. She also experiments with scraping and sanding to create a sense of exposure and atmosphere. Through these layered processes, Miranda recontextualizes memory and feeling associated with specific spaces. Her work reflects on ongoing dialogue between internal processing and external expression, allowing space to become a tool for exploring and reshaping personal narratives.
